Potential Bacterial Antagonists for the Control of Charcoal Rot (Macrophomina phaseolina) in Strawberry

The effect of antagonistic bacteria to control Macrophomina phaseolina was evaluated under in vitro, growth chamber, greenhouse and field conditions. A total 177 bacteria, isolated from Athrocaulon macrostachyum rhizosphere the Lebrija marsh, were screened for their potential against M. (causes charcoal rot strawberry) by dual culture assay. Of these isolates, 14 most promising strains molecularly identified 16S rDNA sequencing method using EzBioCloud database. These tested vitro hydrolytic enzymes, HCN production, biocontrol strawberry plants. All produced, at least, one enzymatic activity them, which belongs Brevibacterium genus (Hvs8), showed lowest records disease incidence (20%) severity (0.4). With results, trials carried out with Hvs8 strain, compared non-treated control. In assays, strain increased root dry mass 30%, over trials, production fruit quality not significantly different between treatment control, but plant mortality associated decreased more than 24% 65% respectively, treatment. This study suggests that sp. could be a candidate controlling strawberry.
